Help with antique POS system
I need to salvage an old point of sale system that depends on a server running Windows 2000. On the server itself, the power supply fan and at least one case fan have failed. My initial thought is to back up the hard drive(s) before anything else then replace any faulty components in the system. Based on what I have looked at so far, this system requires Internet access which is a security concern IMO.
With Win2k as a limitation, is there an easy way I can migrate this to newer hardware, or run it in a VM with internet and local network access? Any suggestions or “I would do ‘x’” comments are appreciated.
