Management Information Systems (MIS)

Does anyone here have experience in MIS/ITS?

I'm doing a FBLA competition involving MIS. FBLA is basically a high school and collegiate level competitive business oriented organization. A majority of these competitions involve role plays and case studies. For example, I may be presented with a case on MIS with a hospital requiring a system that allows them to keep track of patient records along with some specific requirements of the system. You get 20 minutes to prepare for it then present your plan in front of several judges.

This is the sample case and I dont know what to do any help will be appriciated:

This tutoring company offers courses and prep classes. The majority of the programs are high school-based courses such as history courses, science courses, and foreign language. The director of this organization, Mr. Gibbs, is having issues organizing and keeping track of the current system using his spreadsheets. Your job is to make a modernized system to keep track of all details included in the organization using a database system with an integrated application.

The System needs the following functions:

  • Information about the Courses
  • Information about the Students
  • Information about the Tutors
  • Information about office staff
  • Information about Fees
  • Information about Schedules
  • Information about Business and Company finance

The director would like you to develop a system that meets the following requirements:

  • A website for the customers and students/parents to view courses information and tutor information
  • Limit updating of the system to the director and the assistant director
  • Maintains and Creates unique reports of the operation schedule and student roster for the students and the tutors
  • Install hardware that supports the database
    • Include all hardware components
    • Including a business disaster recovery plan
  • Plan for cost effectiveness
